Vergissmeinnicht By: Keith Douglas

By just looking at the title of this poem it made me stop and look it up and just by doing that it is what made me choose this poem. "Vergissmeinnicht" which is a

German word that mean "forget me not" and this is said by a woman Steffi, who has lost her significant other. The poem starts with " Three week gone" and its a soldiers firsthand account of his return to the site of a fierce battle. After these three weeks he finds a deceased German known as "the soldier" who has just fired at his tank before his demise. Throughout this poem Keith Douglas tells and shows how the lover and the killer of the soldier will be remembered.

It goes to show that not only the loved ones are affect in a situation like this but all the one who had to do such a act.
