LOST
I chose to do a new poem, and as I was searching google I came across a poem that I found a lot of respect for and this poem is called Lost by David Wagoner. This poem is about nature AGAIN and as I read it all I could say is that this poem is so true. It talks about how a forest is a whole new world of its own and we as humans are lost in that forest. We are new to this world and do not have the right to barge in and think we own it, but we have to take a different approach at it and "must treat it as a powerful stranger." We have to treat it like this because we do not know our way around or do not know what the forest has to offer, this is left for the forest to show us. The forest is the one who has to grasp our attention and show us around and teach us new things, and not have us take away form that forest as we already do. In the 7 line the poet says "Must ask permission to know it and be known." I find this every important and true because I believe that people just take advantage of forests and don't even look at what it has done for us or what it has provided for us, we just walk on in and don't even realized what we have taken away. The poem also says "The forest breathes. Listens. It answers, I have made this place around you, If you leave it you may come back again, saying Here." This is so true because the forest, trees, and plants is what really keeps us alive and here it is saying that they are alive to and breath just as we do. They have made this great place (forest) around us and we can always come back only if we do not destroy it. This poem also expresses that no two trees are same, just like no two people are the same. The last couple of lines just left me in AWW and I say this because you are lost in the forest, but its ok just stay calm because the forest knows where you are, you just have to say calm and let it find you and take you away!!!!!
